September 2023

Hello PTK!

My name is Lynne Kim, and I am a Psychology student here at Bergen, as well as the current President of Phi Theta Kappa. I was inducted last Fall and formally joined as a board member of the Service team this past Spring. I am writing to give an update on the recent activities our chapter participated in this summer, and to outline our plans for the upcoming fall semester.

Over the summer, our chapter has remained actively engaged in various initiatives that reflect our commitment to academic excellence, community service, and personal growth.

Our College Project initiative allowed us to gain valuable insights into different programs offered on the Lyndhurst campus. Our Honors in Action has just gotten off to an exciting start, already collaborating with the librarians on our research, so please stay tuned.

Community service has been a cornerstone of our activities. We participated in three campus cleanups, one each in June, July, and August. In June, we volunteered at the Feral Cats of Bergen County, followed by our return to MEVO farms in July, where we engaged in tasks such as harvesting carrots, weeding tomato plants, and preparing for the upcoming season. In August, we partnered with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, aiding in the packaging of donated food items for local distribution.

Fellowship and networking have been equally important components of our summer initiatives. We attended two PTK Middle States Region conferences, one in July at the Rowan College of South Jersey and one in August with our neighbors at Passaic County Community College. We also held an alumni gathering in early August, which allowed us to reconnect with former PTK student leaders, who are now studying at amazing four-year institutions.

As we look forward to the fall semester, our commitment to community service will continue with our engagement at MEVO, our participation in campus cleanups, and other volunteering events. We also plan to resume our social media presence, scholarship promotion initiatives, recruitment efforts through tabling, and chapter fundraisers.

I want to express our gratitude for your continued support. The achievements of our chapter would not be possible without the guidance and environment provided by you all.

Best regards,

Lynne Kim
