Friday, March 22, 2019 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in Room C-313

BCC is creating a network of trained faculty, staff and students working actively to foster a welcoming and supportive campus climate for LGBTQA community.  (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning & allies). The training session will be led by the advisors of Bergen PRIDE, Professor James Bumgardner and Professor Linda Seidman.

A “Safe Space” is a place where a person can…

  • feel supported without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • ask questions without fear of reprisal.

  • be comfortable that they will not be judged

  • be assured of confidentiality when necessary and appropriate, helping to feel more comfortable.

Participating as a “Safe Space” ally does not mean that….

  • you need to be an expert on LGBTQ issues or a counselor.

  • you are the only contact for LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff.

  • you will hear intimate self-disclosures on a regular basis.

  • you will be expected to participate in political activities.

  • others will assume you are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender

Space is limited, please complete the form below if you are interested in participating.  If you have any questions, please contact Dolores Piro at dpiro@bergen.edu.
